So far this year

The last post was December 16th.  Wow!  Although a "day in the life" is exactly the same as the last posting (Mitch still looking for work; although he's about to jump onto an interview in 5 minutes), there were a few things of note (I really should post when they happen.  I will try harder)...

1)  Mother/daughter cruise - over the Christmas week.  Me, Amy, Jessica and Alex had a really wonderful and memorable time.

2)  I felt kind of bad leaving Mitch at home alone, especially since for several months he kept overhearing all our plans and excitement.  So... I booked the same exact cruise for just the 2 of us over Valentine's week. Of course, being with people you rarely see versus someone you spend 24/7 with is a bit more fun, but we still had a really great time. I'm ready for another one!

3) Didn't do much for my birthday--just went out for sushi dinner with the kids.

4) Passover - this year had a few more pros and cons versus the last 7 years in the RV.

On the plus side:

  • we have so much more cabinet and counter space, that I was able to keep all my KP stuff hidden instead of leaving it all out on the counters, couch, floor, mantle.
  • we were able to have an in-person seder! (the previous 2 years were held by Zoom, not only because of the pandemic but because we couldn't fit more than 4 other people).  This year, there were 8 of us: the kids plus 3 friends from shul.
  • Have a huge walk in closet plus a storage room to store all our KP stuff (which now take up 3 large boxes) as opposed to the equivalent of one box, items loose under the bed!
On the negative side:
  • so much more space to clean and counters to cover.
Overall, very happy to have the space again.

5) Mitch just had a total knee replacement (on April 19th).  My hip replacement was done while in the RV, so getting around was a major ordeal.  Mitch is very fortunate to be in this apartment to recover.  The first 2 days, he fell 3 times.  Thankfully, only his pride was hurt.  Mostly it's because he thinks he can move in ways he really shouldn't.  By today, however (one day short of 2 weeks) we have seen amazing improvement.  He's still on the walker but is definitely much more stable and able to do a lot of things on his own.

Those are about the only "milestones" since December.

The winter here was a bit colder than Florida, but it wasn't too long lasting.  There were probably only about a handful of days I needed to wear my heavy winter coat, and only once needed my scarf.  Mostly the mornings were in the 30s but warmed up to the 50s by the pm.  So far, with the exception of last week when it was in the high 80s (near 90), spring has been in the mid 70's.  Very nice!  The pool is now open, so looking forward to using it (although mostly it will be crowded with kids).

Mitch and I also tried to take daily walks around the premises.  Hopefully he'll be able to resume that again soon.
